Not a very good shot as i only had the 100mm with me, but to me this looks too small for a Red Deer or is it my eyes

Agreed, it's a Roe deer buck (male). Looking in prime condition too as their rut has just got (or is about to get) underway.

A very fine looking Roe buck. The black marking near the nose is a give away.
