| | | shooting of deer my father in law regularly walks his dog near to his home, now in the past 6 months he has or rather his dog has been finding various parts of deer- feet, whole skin, guts and today a head of a male deer, he has a pretty good idea who is doing the killing(the person suspected has said he has permission to cull on this land) and it must be done with a silencer as it is in close by houses, certainly this is meat being sold on the black market otherwise why the gutting out in the open, any thing that can be done??? |

This sounds like poaching to me and the use of the gun near to houses doesn't sound too good either. Tell the police and then leave them to it and steer well clear - you might be surprised at how much interest they may take ............

It is absolutely standard practice to gut (more normally referred to as gralloching) a deer as soon as practicable after it is shot, and this is generally done where the deer dies unless there is a specific reason to move it. Modern practice is to carry out a short gralloch - remove stomach and intestines and leave the chest closed until back at the larder.
It is less common to remove the lower legs and head in the field but this can be done if necessary or desirable to assist with carrying or dragging out the carcase.
It would be unusual to skin the carcase in the field.
If you are concerned that something wrong is being done then I would suggest your first call should be to the landowner concerned who will know for sure who has permission to take deer on his land.
regards
