| | | Adoption of a wild baby mouse Hi everyone.
I recently accidently squashed a nest of mice whilst moving some boxes in my paddock, unfortunatly my dog killed mum but one baby was alive and un injured. I've taken it the the vets and got some KMR and a syringe and have been feeding it for about 24hrs now.
It is lively and toileting itself although its eyes aren't open just yet. The vet seemed to think its about 2 weeks old??
I've noticed what i'm assuming is a flea on it but can't seem to catch it to get it off. Obviously there is a risk of disease with wild mice, can you de flea them? And make sure they are free from disease?
I feel I owe this poor little thing my time and effort to help it survive. I assume I couldn't just let it go once it is old enough as it wouldn't know how to fend for itself??
I'd appreciate any feed back really.
I have had mice as pets in the past but not a wild one as I do believe where possible things should stay that way.

| | | Re: Adoption of a wild baby mouse Do you know what sort of mouse it is Mwfannwy? if it is a Wood mouse I would let it go when it is old enough. We have pet fancy mice and it is usual to only keep females unless you breed them because the males are smelly.

Plenty of experienced wildlife rehabilitators on here, im sure one will help. |

| | | Re: Adoption of a wild baby mouse I would probably say it is a wood mouse yes. Its mum had poppy eyes and big ears if I remember rightly, she was about 3 1/2 inches long without tail. |

Get them off by hand, and squash them. | It will be easier to pinch it off the mouse then use your thumbnail to cut it in half, less chance of escape then.
