I think the main difference is the tail, the Stoat's tail has a black tip. Also the line that seperates the brown and white is usually straighter on a Stoat.
Hopefully you got a glance at the tail 
I'd go for Stoat. |

Ones weasley weckognised the others stoatly different 
Stoats look stockier in the neck to me.
