I saw a brownish creature coming down a tree trunk face first. Too big for a squirrel and not a cat so I wonder if it could have been a polecat? Can they climb?

Depends where you are in the country. I might be thinking along the lines of Pine Marten and would describe Polecat as brownish. |

Could have been a Stoat or Weasel too; both are expert climbers. |

I'm thinking Pine Martin. Stoat and weasel are possible but perhaps too small? You say "bigger than a cat". Polecats are only wee critters as well.

I'm in Mid Wales so if it was a pine marten that would be wonderful. It was quite stocky and not like a weasel - much broader. Thanks for all your replies. |
