| | | A Hedgehog Related plea Normally I come on here offering advice and support to anyone who has a hedgehog related issue.
However this time I am going to ask for help as long as the mods don't mind.
With over twenty hedgehogs in with us at the moment (and no sign of a slowdown) we have run out of hutches and carriers to house them in. Sadly a number of rescuers in our surrounding areas have given up leaving us with an ever increasing area to cover.
If anyone has one of the plastic type pet carriers (small, medium or large), that they no longer want and would be willing to donate to a rescue unit then please contact me on here, (or go to our rescue unit link and either email us or give us a call).
(if the mods want to remove this, please do, but with the situation at the moment I am going on an 'if you don't ask you don't get' route)

| | | Re: A Hedgehog Related plea Really sorry to hear about your predicament, Charlie. Hope you get some much deserved donations soon (either cat carriers, or cash donations to buy some more cat carriers). Have you tried your local Freegle? I tried registering last year, but for some unknown reason I was refused lol! |

| | | Re: A Hedgehog Related plea Thank you nightshade, very much appreciated.
Hedgehoggy - yes we have ads out on the free sites, have contacted local radio for a plug and luckily we had two dropped off to us yesterday (although one of these has now been filled with a new patient).
I have also spoken to our vets and when they get carriers left (e.g. pets put down and the owners can't bare to have the carrier back), they are going to split the carriers between us and the Blue Cross who at the moment get all the carriers. |

| | | Re: A Hedgehog Related plea Hi Charlie, have you tried the freecycle and freegle groups near you?
If you join all the local groups you can both watch out for offers of pet carriers, hutches and pens, and also post a wanted message.
(Only post one wanted message at a time as you aren't allowed to post the same one on different groups at the same time.)
Always mention it is for hedgehog rescue, but don't labour the point (but add a note that people can email you for further details. But if you reply to someone's offer you can give more details of why you want it. Freegle: Find a group Regions of United Kingdom
Both groups aim to help save the earth by cutting down on landfill by offering items free to others.

| | | Re: A Hedgehog Related plea I forgot to say: also check on Ebay. look for pet carriers, then look for nearest first. Many people don't want to post big items, so they are "pick up only". You are quite likely to find a few for very cheap if you can pick up.

| | | Re: A Hedgehog Related plea Many thanks for the replies.
We haven't tried tips for people binning them, we do use freecycle and ebay etc where a good number of our carriers have come from.
Posie, we would collect from Malvern that isn't too far at all for us.
Another hog in last night so we are still on the hunt for suitable accommodation. Its never ending at the moment. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
