Have some log piles rotting down
Leave areas to go wild.. eg.g. long grass and 'weed species'.
Plant some shrubs or even better a small hedge instead of a fence.
Have a shallow sided pond.
Avoid pesticides and netting in the garden.
You can leave out water (not milk), and some food; peanut nibs, sunflower hearts, sultanas, mealworms, dog biscuits.
If you wanted to go the whole 'hog' then you could put a hog home and a feeding station into the garden. |

Make sure that you have a gap somewhere under your fence or side gate. It doesn't need to be a huge hole. Hedgehogs can sqeeze under the smallest of gaps. The gap under my fence is about three inches high.
I saw the first hedgehog in my garden when I put up a large bird feeding station about three or four years ago. It was eating the fallen seed. After that I bought hedgehog food and I haven't looked back. During the dry weather in May I picked up and identified nine! They are eating me out of house and home but who cares I love them. |
