| | Injured wildlife - what to do? I've been thinking lately about what you would do in a situation where you might find an injured animal and what you should do about it...
I would like to know people's views for incase it happens in future.
I have noticed many dead animals at the roadside of late including little fox cubs which upsets me and I wonder if I ran over something (accidentally of course) when driving and the animal was still alive what should be done?
I know if it was severely injured then perhaps it should be put out of it's misery but how could I make that judgement? If it wasn't severely injured is there a number I should ring at any time for help in this kind of scenario or could I take it to the vets or what have you?
This also goes for other situations, like injured birds you may come across that may have been attacked by a cat. My friend sometimes takes birds which have been captured and badly injured by her cats to the vets to be euthanised...
Apologies if there is already such a thread.

| | | Re: Injured wildlife - what to do? I have my vets phone number, bat helpline number and the nearest wildlife centre phone number stored in my mobile phone. Once I came across a dog that had been injured by a car and had no relevant numbers on my mobile. Fortunately someone else did. Since then I try to be prepared just in case. |

| | | Re: Injured wildlife - what to do? My vet told me to call SSPCA and they would take the injured animal to the vet.
Before I found out about that I had foned a wildlife sanctuary which was miles away and they said they could help if I trapped the animal in a shed,,it actuallly got better so I didnt have to do anything afterall!
There are places out there which would be more than willing to help! |

Don't have the number off hand, but I can get it you if you need it. Alternatively, we are about an hour's drive from newcastle and can often help.

I love watching Wildlife SOS on animal planet cos they help injured and sick animals and I love how they always have their teeth fixed before going back out to the wild.
I often wonder if an animal with a sore tooth wakes up and remembers that before he went to sleep he had a sore mouth. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
