| | | Rescued Mouse So happy to join and hello to all. I have rescued a mouse I believe it be a field mouse but she is very big and I am not sure if she is pregnant, I rescued her from my cat who had already killed another mouse and was still playing with this one I have our her in a box with food, water and bedding and she has just been sleeping I guess this is the shock still. I plan to release her once she is mended but I notice her front paw seems injured and her one eye, If I let her out in the wild I think she will be killed. I was thinking of putting her in the shed in the box so she can heal and still feel free and safe from my cat is this wise or should I just keep her indoors till she is better. I notice she is very different to the baby field mouse that I rescued and had to keep as a pet as she is not afraid of my cat and was unwise for me to let her go she's done well and is now over 8months. I guess I want to make sure I do the right thing. I don't see any marks on her but when I did pick her up she did have some blood around her mouth and nose this however has not continued I see no blood anywhere in the tub. I thank all that may offer me advice

| | | Re: Rescued Mouse The danger from injuries caused by a cat is infection, you will have to decide whether it is necessary to run these past a vet. If the mouse seems much recovered from its ordeal release it as soon as possible along way from your garden or it will come straight back and into the danger zone.

| | | Re: Rescued Mouse Thanks for the reply. Well I have checked and she has no cuts or has no blood I meant to say the only blood I saw was when I originally rescued her. I just really a bit worried as she has not eaten still and only had a small amount of water and has been sleeping now for about 20+hrs if i try to put the water bottle she gets startled I do not know what to do that is right for her. Is this natural after such a shock or could it be my cat broke her jaw as he flings mice in the air like a toy. Is there anyway to stop him killing so many mice. He tries it will all pigeons, birds, mice even squirrels. I know its not his fault as he doesn't understand but he has no need to kill as I feed him. Should I have him wear a collar last time he wore one he tried to get it off his neck and it stuck in his mouth and he cut himself and his mouth so I am thinking he might really hurt himself what to do

| | | Re: Rescued Mouse I have pet mice and they sleep most of they day naturally and drink very little.
Not eating could be shock try something like a cheerio.
There is not much you can do about a cat who is a hunter, you have tried the bell and that didn't work, you should keep him in if you know baby birds are leaving the nest, and if you feed birds put it high up.

| | | Re: Rescued Mouse Thanks for the advice, I let her go yesterday. She was in shock and once awoke I found she was a jumping mouse leapt out the box I had and took ages to get her, I wish animals knew we are not going to hurt them. I let her go near some hedges well away from my house and left her some food just in case she can't go far and thats all I could do. I did not know mice could jump from that height my word she was quick. I hope I didn't injure her trying to catch her but she sped off when I let her out. Hope she lives a while longer though. Thank you for all your help I will get my cat a collar with a big bell hopefully that will help warn them to hide.

| | | Re: Rescued Mouse Well done for rescuing the mouse and giving it a second chance. I'm glad you haven't come under attack from people on here like I did when I did the same thing and shared it on this site! Rescued
Best regards,
