Hi folks,
Does anyone know of a webpage or book that has a photo or drawing of a badger's hair under the microscope.

bear in mind that that might not be european badger hair 
I'm roughly recalling a memory of a book that is about identifying animal hair using a micrscope and the shape of the scales on the hairs - possibly also using gelatine inprints of the hair but the detail of this book hasn't come to me yet....... |

I could probably snap the two badger pages and email then to you if you wish, if you can't get a copy.

I have an older book by H.M. Appleyard - 'Guide to the Identification of Animal Fibres' (1960)
It sounds like the newer volumes above will meet your needs, but let me know if you want me to dig it out. |

Firstly, thanks to all for for your help.
I have managed to locate a copy of Hair of West-European Mammals at £30. However (at the moment) I really only need photos of badger's hair. So Henrya, if you could email me a snap of the 2 pages I'd be most grateful.

Well nightshade, when I'm out with my dog I collect animal hairs that I find on brambles, barbed wire etc and photograph them under the microscope (I also photograph insects, flowers, lichen and fungi). I keep a record of where and when I found the hair and I just need confirmation of id and a reference I can quote for the badger hair. | | | |
