That's the one thanks folks! My ex boss used to have a copy, one day I'll have a go at this I'd love to be better at hair ID (as opposed to hare ID which I'm already ok at - unless you're talking about hare hair..... oh god it's Friday isn't it time to go home for me I think, it's already been a long day!!!)

If you can get a copy there is a nice pictoral (line drawing) key in British Wildlife Vol 11(2) pages 118-120 (1999). It's a key to the guard hairs of British canids and mustelids.
