| | | Stoat and the baby Rabbits I got a call from a friend tonight saying there was a Stoat in his neighbours garden. He stays in the country in a semi detatched house where there are no other houses. Any way I got there as quick as I could and I just managed to witness it taking the last two babies from the nest. I got a few photos (Ill put on tomorrow) and I went round the back side to see if I could see where the Stoat was taking the young ones. As I waited a baby rabbit was sitting out in the open in the field. This had been taken from the nest and left for some reason by the Stoat. I waited 15 minutes, but it never returned so I put it back in the nest. I doubt it will survive as the mother will probably abandon or the Stoat will return. What I noticed was I had to put it back through a really small hole, one Im sure the Stoat had dug to get in. Will this be what has happened? And if so how would it have known they were in there? By smell or perhaps it had watched the mother from a distance leaving???? Id be thankful if any one could shed some light on this one. |
