| | | Witnessed a mindless act Yesterday whiilst out rooting around I came across a new Badger Sett beside a country road. Im pretty sure it was the same family that had its Sett destroyed last year by a farmer (By mistake I believed at the time) as it was only 100 yards away from the old Sett. Any way I returned last night at 7pm to sit it out and see how many Badgers came out, if any and my girlfriend stayed in the car close by. To cut a long story short, 10 mins later a Badger appeared and headed for the road where my car was parked. I heard another car coming, but wasnt concerned as it was a pick up that was crawling along at 10mph max. The Badger then walked onto the road 20 yards in front of the pick up truck and stopped in the middle and looked at the vechile. To my astonishment the driver accelerated and ran right over the top of the animal and it rolled 3 times and limped off. I was 5 yards away in the trees and my girlfriend was 25 yards away watching this in the car. She got out screaming at the driver and he took off. I jumped in my car and caught him up to get his registration then I flashed him and he stopped. I asked him why he had done this and he just smirked and said I never seen any Badger and drove off. I went straight to the Police and they took statements from us and took the matter very seriously. Turns out he is the farmer of the land and I am sure this wil go to court and I hope they deal with him accordingly. I also hope if convicted he loses his single payment. Never been so angry or disgusted in my life. |

| | | Re: Witnessed a mindless act Yes, that is sickening.
That reminds me of a dead Badger we saw recently. It was on a badger 'track' near a road and we couldn't work out why it had died there. No doubt they are tough animals that can walk a fair distance after a road traffic 'incident'.
I hope they throw the book at this cruel waste of space.

| | | Re: Witnessed a mindless act I reckon it happens all the time. Either that or there are some very unlucky badgers round here given the number of corpses and the very quiet roads. I've never seen it happen though. |

| | | Re: Witnessed a mindless act That`s very sick & sad Fudgey, I hope the farmer gets punished properly. I often wondered if the dead badgers you see on roads are actually killed there or dumped

Fudgey - good on you for having the nuts to go after him and take action. People like this need to be put in their place.
Really hope there's a satisfactory result.

| | | Re: Witnessed a mindless act Sadly I can't say I'm surprised. The amount of suspicious dead badgers Ive seen by roads that have obviously been dumped to make it look like roadkill in some places is very worrying. Its farmers like this that make it hard to sympathise when they plead poverty and hardship, which is a shame because I know some really care about wildlife.
These people claim to be the "guardians of the countryside" - God help the countryside!

Nige | I think thats part of the problem they think it has been created for them and they can do what they want with it but it wasn't!
At the risk of sounding like a hippy the world wasn't created for humans, we just happened to have evolved on it, so we need to work with nature, at least to some degree. Just annihilating a species thats an inconvenience or not bothering to work round a species as it will cost you a little bit more time or money is only ever going to end badly in the long run. |

That's the part people have forgotten. Initially Adam was created, he did all these things. Sin entered the world, and it all went to pot, man did his own thing, and most cared only for themselves.
Either way, we all agree what the guy did was completely wrong!
