| | | Should I give my hedgehog supplements? At last my hedgie is back (well I like to think it's the same one!). For the last 3 nights he's been scoffing away at the hedgehog food I've been leaving out (can't believe how much he can put away! I know this seems daft & how could I tell anyway, but the closest I can describe it, is as if he was a dog & had a bit of a stary (spelling?)/dull coat. He looks a good size, poo is ok & I'm sure it's just because he's just out of hibernation. Would a drop of olive oil or some sort of oil (& I'm only talking a drop honest) help the condition or not? Or maybe put out some wet food like cat food?
He's got plenty of water as well
Thank you as well to whomever suggested the plastic box with a hole cut out, best thing I've ever made

| | | Re: Should I give my hedgehog supplements? I think he will be fine without supplements, providing he gets a mixed and balanced diet. My hedgehogs have just been released, but when I have them here, they get a very varied diet. Cat/dog meat-flavoured tinned food, cat complete biscs, mealworms (dried), peanuts (chopped), dried fruit like currants, sultanas...., eggs, (fresh, hard boiled, or scrambled in a little olive oil), banana (occasionally).
So long as your hog is eating, he will be fine. His condition will improve with time.

| | | Re: Should I give my hedgehog supplements? As farplace said no need for supplements, dry kitten/puppy food along with some variety such as peanut nibs, sunflower hearts, sultanas is great.
If you have a bit of chicken left over from dinner, a bit of fruit etc then those can be left out as well. |

| | | Re: Should I give my hedgehog supplements? Is it ok to feed hogs sultanas raisans and peanuts then? It isn't something I had thought about but mine is really fussy and only eats one type of dry hog food. I am sure he would love variety |

| | | Re: Should I give my hedgehog supplements? Some hogs like sultanas/raisins, but most of mine don't! They all seem to like peanuts here, but you'll need to chop them up a bit first because whole peanuts can get lodged in the back of their mouths. |

| | | Re: Should I give my hedgehog supplements? Well my little hog (actually not so little, but a great stonking one!) has been regularly scoffing my offerings. I offer hedgehog food with extra (chopped!) peanuts & raisins. I keep forgetting to buy a tin of cat food as well. I watched him the other night as he really went hard at the bowl (small ramekin) of food I left out. Not even crumbs left in the morning! Water provided next to feeding station, by my small wildlife pond (easy reach level, plus get out stones, just in case!). Here's hoping it's a female & I get babies this year.
