Mice garden infestation gone

Do sparrow hawks actively hunt mice? I would think that due to mice being largely nocturnal they would only make up a small percentage of their diet.

My mice were very active in the daytime. This SH scans the ground from it's perch. Any easy meal...

I moved the bird feeders which the mice were most interested in, maybe that is why they've gone.

I did think the hawk would have a job getting up enough speed to surprise a mouse from it's perch about 3 mtrs up.

Sparrowhawks mainly feed on birds, mammals make up a small proportion of the diet. Its unlikely that this bird has reduced their numbers to a significant level. It likely that moving the feeders and the time of year (dispersing into breeding areas) are why your seeing less mice.
