| | | Re: Bat feeding Though bats hibernate, they do sometimes change their winter roosts in milder spells + will hunt if conditions are suitable. In recent weeks it's been so mild there are quite a few flying insects, particularly dipterans, about.
A few years back I saw a couple of Pipistrelles + a Noctule on a New Year's Day walk in Richmond Park- it was a very mild, still + grey day. |

Bats may also fly in cold snaps - when one hibernation site gets too cold they have to move to another. This is tough on them because when it gets cold there is little chance of feeding.
