What have I seen?

I was feeding the ducks with my young son on the local canal near Manchester yesterday, when i spotted a mammal on the bank at the far side. It was almost black, a similar shape and length to a ferret, but it had a small more rounded head, at first i thought it might have been a mink, but do we get them here? and its definately not a water vole, if it's not a mink what is it? i wish i'd taken a picture but it was off in a flash before i had a chance

Sounds like a mink. Can you report it to your local wildlife trust? They need to know where these animals are.

Agree, it does sound like a Mink.

I reckon it's a mink too. A lot more widespread than people think and likely to be out and about in daylight.
