| | | Re: Hedgehog Help I'm afraid this is a sad end but thankfully it was sudden.
I don't know whether the hog was seriously ill/injured when I found him or whether his continual digging and attempts to escape prejudiced his recovery. Initially he did so well and was gaining strength and weight.
Thanks Hhoggy, CharlieC and others for the advice.

| | | Re: Hedgehog Help Aaw, poor little mite. Sorry your (?)first rescue had such a sad outcome. Just to reassure you (in case this has put you off rescuing future needy hogs), the stress of captivity wouldn’t have been the cause of his demise, otherwise he wouldn’t have continued to eat and gain weight. He likely had an underlying illness/injury which wasn’t evidently apparent, hence the squeaking which you mentioned today.
If you haven’t done so already, could you notify the rescue centre you initially contacted for advice.
RIP little hog. |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Help Sorry to hear that it ended in this way DM. As Hedgehoggy says if the hog was so stressed by being in captivity then it wouldn't have eaten or gained weight regularly so it wasn't this at all there will have been another underlying issue. |

| | | Re: Hedgehog Help Thanks Hedgehoggy and CharlieC,
The experience, although disappointing, would not put me off a future rescue attempt.
