| | | Re: Urgent hedgehog advice please Quick update - Hedgie made it through the night. He doesn't seem to have eaten or drunk anything but was kept nice and warm and seems alert this morning. I'm now waiting for the rescue centre to open at 9 so I can take him in. Will post any updates.
Thanks all for help

| | | Re: Urgent hedgehog advice please Unfortunately I have a sad update. The rescue people looked at him and when they removed a few ticks he squeaked so they gave him some painkiller and put him in a recovery room. 5 mins after I left they called to say he had started hemorrhaging from his mouth and they had to put him down
They're not sure if he was either poisoned (from slug pellets and the like) or hit by a car, although they think the car scenario might be the right one judging by the way I found him (lying on his side) and one of his rear legs didn't quite look right. It's so sad because he'd done so well to survive winter at his weight.
On a positive note, I've been told I can release one of my rescue hedgehogs so will be doing that tomorrow - here's hoping she stays as fit and healthy as she currently is!
Thanks all for the help

| | | Re: Urgent hedgehog advice please So sorry to hear that Sarah. I had a hunch he might have been clipped by a car, and even if you had been able to get him to the wildlife centre last night, I fear the outcome would have been exactly the same. Very few hedgehogs survive being clipped by cars (most get totally flattened ).
On a happier note, well done with getting your two charges to healthy release status |

| | | Re: Urgent hedgehog advice please Sorry to hear about the poor hog, being clipped by a vehicle also came into my mind but supposition on cause wouldn't have helped last night.
It is sad to think that hogs get though winter to go so quickly afterward but as Hedgehoggy mentioned at least you have two good news stories that will have a chance this year because of your efforts. |

I wonder if it was rat poison as this thins the blood causing haemorrhage
I wish people would not use this horrible poison. |
