Field mouse scar

I wonder if anyone can help.
I'm been observing a small family of field mice in my back garden.
Last weekend, I noticed one had a large lump on his forehead.
Yesterday, I took some close up photos and noticed the lump was gone, but had left a scar.
Any ideas what might have caused it??

If the lump was grey, smooth and more or less plum shaped, it was probably a tick. Now that it has gone, the scar on the mouse should eventually disappear. (If old age doesn't get the mouse first).

Or maybe an abscess that has burst.
