I spotted this critter in the garden a couple of days ago, it was scoffing down some of the bird food I'd put out. I don't know what it is though! If anyone can help with an ID I would be hugely grateful.

The side view head profile looks like a bank vole to me but IDing from photos is not my strong point. |

It does look more vole-shaped about the head, but very young rats look similar. However, I think the tail looks too hairy for it to be a rat.... but perhaps too long for it to be a vole. Are there any more photos available?

This is juv brown rat, albeit a dead one for comparison.
Made a pigs ear of inserting image and cannot do it using edit, next post will conatin it.

My first thought on seeing the first picture was 'that's not a rat.' So I dug through my photos archive and came up with these and I think the ears are wrong in the OP. 
One of our pet rats when she was very young.
