| | | Weasel/Stoat or similar in my garden Hi everyone, first of all i would like to introduce myself. My name is Franky and live in the West of Scotland.
Today while standing doing the washing up (I know my wife got lucky)
.....i saw this little long cute thing standing a couple of feet away. I ran to get the camera but it had moved to the rear of the garden.
Managed to get a shot, although not a very clear/up close one.
I live in the country and dont have a problem but we have a small dog an just wondering if the weasel/stoat etc... could attack her?
Thanx |

| | | Re: Weasel/Stoat or similar in my garden Hi dufster welcome to WAB it is very unlikely your dog will be attacked more likely the other way round stoat/weasel would take a wide birth if it sensed your dog upload the picture you took so we can try to identify it for you or if you did see it close up did it have a black tip on its tail if yes it was a stoat if not then a weasel which is the smaller of the both

| | | Re: Weasel/Stoat or similar in my garden I have seen several weasels - such cute little things and always so busy.
Being in Scotland though, it could have been a pine martin too, although I think they are quite a bit larger so you would probably know if it was one of these!
Look forward to the photo. |

| | | Re: Weasel/Stoat or similar in my garden Seen film of a both bringing down large rabbits with ease dont think either would tackle a dog though
Stoats seem to move around with their heads up always on the look out for trouble they also have a black tip to the tail which is longer than that of a weasel.
Weasels are like water (fluid) when they move over the ground and through hedges on the hunt as mentioned they have a shorter tail no black tip and their ears are smaller where as a stoats seem to be placed higher up on the head.
The only time I have seen a weasel is when they bolt across the road in front of the car but seen a fair share of stoats mostly around hedges they seem more inquisitive than weasles.
Welcome to WAB hope whichever it is you manage to post some pix
Chris.

Could you possibly give some indication of size/colour?
Aside from the otter and badger, all remaining mustelids that roam GB including the introduced mink are no match for a dog.
