Rat/vole ?

Can anyone identify this fella, seen moving along a local scottish river bank ?

Not a vole. But doesnt look like a rat either. Poss some sort of mustelid? How big was it?

looked again at pics can see why u say mustalid but im still with rat

I'm pretty sure this is a weasel. Size looks OK, colour OK (brown upper, white under), tail OK (short, furry, about the right length), pointy head.

The tail looks much too short for a rat - rats have a very long, scaly (and ugly) tail, not like this at all.

Looks like an American Mink to me.

Going by the apparent colour,length of tale in proportion to body size and the shape of the ears, I'd guess Weasel or stoat as most likely candidate. Cant judge size without a reference point.

My first thought was mink. What struck me about this animal was the shade and density of that fur.

Reconsidering my earlier certainty, I think mink does look a good alternative to weasel for this, and probably the fur does match mink better. Doesn't have the black-tipped tail for stoat though.

This is without doubt an american mink, you can even see the white chin. The tail is totally different to a weasel, rat or vole, as is the colour.
