| | | Re: grey squirrels love em or hate them you must admire their tenacity Yes, I love to watch grey squirrels in my garden. No need for "squirrel-proof feeders" here as the birds seem to eat their fill alongside the squirrels. In fact if there are corvids about, the squirrel has to wait its turn.
Lovely photos! |

| | | Re: grey squirrels love em or hate them you must admire their tenacity They are really great photos. The grey squirrels we have here do no last long because they cull them because they carry disease that kills the red squirrels. Pity. |

| | | Re: grey squirrels love em or hate them you must admire their tenacity What is strange is some folks attitude to Greys as if they are an evil creature because of the problems with Reds. I'm certain the Original Greys didn't book passage on a ship to Britain voluntarily. Humans dragged them kicking and screaming to these shores. Why hate an animal? What use is this dislike, hate, loathing?
I have had many happy minutes watching both and feel as if I have been given a gift afterwards. Hating a beast is contrary to our souls (I'm not a religious man) But better to enjoy what we have than to actively want our world made 'cleaner'
Just an opinion
The shots are great and charming commentary too.

| | | Re: grey squirrels love em or hate them you must admire their tenacity Im a regular poster on the bird section , but i suffer , if you like, from squirrels on my bird tables and feeders.
The strange thing is the missus likes them and so do i to a point. They do have a character about them and are fun to watch.
Just a quick question.. i do like the series of pics posted by the naturelover, but does the redish stripe on the squirrels back mean anything. I see five in the garden today and one of them had a promanant red stripe running down its back.
cheers

| | | Re: grey squirrels love em or hate them you must admire their tenacity I find nothing admirable about them. The little b'staards have returned to our garden after a couple of years of peace - eating the bird food and damaging the trees. We've had a couple of quiet years without any in the garden or, indeed, in the neighbourhood. Rumour has it that there had been a quiet cull a few years back; others say that it was last year's extended, cold winter. Personally, I think that it was a couple of local cats learning that it was quite easy to catch and kill baby squirrels. Whatever, I hope something happens soon to get squirrel populations down again (to nil ?) - you can never find a cat when you want one - all curled up in front of the fire, I imagine. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
