"Zoologists and experts said foxes said foxes could be growing bigger because of ‘easy pickings’ of food scraps in dust bins or even left out by animal lovers."
| I see animal lovers get the blame again - not those who drop their chips and kebabs everywhere! |

| | | Re: Giant Fox Killed It isn't, or rather wasn't, even that big a fox, certainly not a "giant". Just a big healthy dog fox.

| | | Re: Giant Fox Killed What sort of a vet would let their 19 year old cat out at night anyway? Especially as he was aware of fox activity. At that age the cat would be easy pickings for any predator - fox or otherwise!
And how does he know he's killed the right one?! Oh yeah, he's killed 2. When will he be convinced he's got the right one?

| | Re: Giant Fox Killed oh for goodness sake. How the heck could he have possibly known it was that specific fox.
How does that make him good that he has killed another living organism out of the thinking he is more superior when that fox killed because it's its instinct. What a moron.
If a fox killed one of my pets I'd be devastated but I wouldn't wish for something like this for the fox.
And to add to the point of shooting foxes to prevent them getting to peoples hens I also disagree. I know foxes are crafty creatures but if you care enough to shoot them then surely you can put your hands in you pockets and buy some fox proof fencing which is high and goes a good few foot into the ground to prevent them digging under or something along those lines...

| | | Re: Giant Fox Killed I have to say, I'm more worried about the fear this will spread among the general public. The whole tone of the piece, using language like "a seven year old child" is designed to make ignorant readers see foxes as genuine predators possibly after their kids. The Mail's picked it up - no surprises there as it only shifts newspapers through peddling Things to be Afraid of - and I expect the Daily Telegraph will run with it shortly as they're very pro HWD. |

| | | Re: Giant Fox Killed Oh, and surprise surprise, the Mail fills in the blanks so that even the very thickest readers will catch on: "Presenter Charlie Jacoby said: ‘If it took a cat, who’s to say it wasn’t on the path to taking a child? If I lived in the suburbs with children, I would think twice about leaving the baby out in the pram on a warm summer night knowing outsize foxes are out there.’"
Who is Charlie Jacoby anyway? |

| | | Re: Giant Fox Killed Just googled him and he's a big field sports journo, so no agenda there. He's run a column about foxes biting stuff (!), and interestingly, he's also been involved in that dodgy 'save our songbirds' campaign, the one we've talked about on here which is just a front for gamekeepers to legitimise killing species that threaten their pheasants and grouse. |

Who is Charlie Jacoby anyway? | I agree - apparently there's a sporting event that is encouraging anyone to find the biggest fox and the papers have advertised that fact - brilliant.
Who in the right mind would leave a baby out in the pram on a warm summer night on its own anyway - I'd be more scared of humans than a fox.
Perhaps this now gives the right of anyone who's had their child or loved one killed by a murderer to seek revenge and hang them on a stake!! It would save some tax payers money.
Sorry I'm really enraged about this I'd love to stand in front of this Keith and ask a few questions. |

Who is Charlie Jacoby anyway? | A freelance journalist who judging by his CV would have a completely balanced view on foxes (now where is that sarcasm smiley). Charlie Jacoby's homepage
The photo of the grinning child next to a dead fox really saddens me.
