| | | Orca On my walk on Crimdon beach today there was a dead juvenile Orca badly decomposed but its head and teeth where intact. This was about 2m long.
Does anybody have any information of sightings in the North sea.
Until today I was unaware we had them in our waters.
I had no camera with me but my son snapped its head on his mobile camera phone

| | | Re: Orca Sightings are regular in Scotland, more on the west coast. However they are found in small numbers in the north of the north sea bewteen Scotland and Norway. They travel between the two areas of land here. They are less often seen further down, although we had a pod of around 7 pass bempton around 10 years ago. A dead animal could drift far off course though. Numbers are higher in summer, especially further north towards Iceland. |

What a shame this youngster was lost to its pod, as they have strong family bonds. |

| | | Re: Orca They dont have to be caught in nets to be shot. About ten years ago I was in a gun shop in York, thank God this has now gone. There was a family of fishermen who had come from up north to York to buy some guns. My son and I overheard them talking to the proprietor of the shop. They wanted rifles that could kill seals from the top of the cliffs. They would go out on a sunday morning for a shoot. Do seals really cause that much damage?. I think not, these people just like to kill things if it moves shoot it. I am a keen fossiler, and many a time near Whitby I have found shot gun cartridges, and bits of seagull in the rock pools. Man is at fault here by over fishing. The animals are trying to survive just by living. And again I will say they were here first. Is a man who likes Killing things classed as a Sentient Creature?.
You may ask why I was in the gun shop? I like Target shooting. I would never kill an Animal intentionaly, I love and respect Nature. Now the Targets on the range were paper cut outs of Humans, and I am a very good shot with most firearms. These days I dont bother any more. I would love to live in a world of no weapons, and if you are going to shoot somthing; use a Camera.
