| | | Not a good situation - at Capacity Two more hogs in over the last two days which has now put us at capacity for taking in the spikey little tykes. A situation I know a lot of other rescue units are hitting this year. What we will do on the next call I don't know as I know other rescuers in adjoining areas are also full so we can't even re-driect to other units.
We are speedily (in between work) having to build new hutches this week to free up some of the rescue pods so we can take in new rescues and move larger hogs into hutches. Mind that does leave the issue of where on earth the hutches are going!
With the large number and increasing number needing treatments for lungworm etc the amount of time spent in the rescue area is becoming more and more.
Good job it is coming around to Christmas and both of us will be home for a couple of weeks at this rate. |

| | | Re: Not a good situation - at Capacity I know how it feels Charlie. My rescue centre is also at capacity (not just for hedgehogs, but for everything...) I can't envisage having room to take in more until the New year. Its so difficult to say no when you know the animal concerned will have an uncertain future, but we have a duty of care for the animals already here, and can't compromise their well being by taking in more than we can handle.

| | | Re: Not a good situation - at Capacity yep, well that's it, it isn't just having the room it's the being able to give them the best care as well.
I think we can expand once we have the hutches built by another four spaces and then it isn't a case of room it will be a case of not being able to take more and perform to a good standard so then it will have to be closed to new guests until we can get some releases out.
I'm just glad we don't rescue Elephants... finding hog pods big enough would be a nightmare! |
