| | | Did I see a Racoon On Sunday morning I travelled down to Falmouth in the early hours from the Midland. Just outside Truro I stopped in a lay-by for a quick break. and as I pulled up I saw and animal scavenging. At first I thought it was a small badger but it jump two foot into the hedgerow and turned around looking at me. There were white marking around the eyes and the face was not so pointed, No way was it a badger it then jumped down and wandered off. It had quite a bushy tail. Could I have seem a raccoon or something similar. It had short legs and it was bigger than a cat.

Does sound like a raccoon. Obviously not native to Britain so it must be an escapee from somewhere. Is there a zoo nearby? The only other thing is if someone has had it as a pet and it's escaped or been dumped.

An old story found on the BBC, could be a racoon: BBC NEWS | UK | England | Devon | Raccoon road surprise for couple
Might be worth reporting the sighting.
