| | Re: Random Question Not sure to be frank but looking at other similar species of rodent e.g beaver and rat - their young are also known as pups or kittens but looking at other rodents like guinea pigs and gerbils and such like their young are more associated with the term pup. So personally I'd go with pup on that basis but if kitten suits you better...
and novel go you!
Always nice to see people getting stuck into english literature...

| | | Re: Random Question Ooooh, a novel - tell us more! I'm intrigued and I'd certainly buy a copy, so be sure to let us know when it gets published
I've always referred to baby squirrels as kittens and I just checked an old squirrel link I had bookmarked in which they also refer to them as kittens: Squirrels in the UK |

The squirrel one is basically about a road scheme proposed through ancient woodland with red squirrels in it.
The other one is about humpback whales.
When both the above fail me, I have the bare bones of a "fairy" story - basically Nature fighting back against the destruction created by Man.
