| | | Otters - finally some decent pics We've been watching this family for many months now, usually at twilight.
She started out with three cubs. Sadly about 6 weeks ago one was caught in a discarded fishing keep-net and died. When I spotted the family last week there seemed to be only one cub left, so these photos are twinged with a certain amount of sadness.
Still, its fantastic to see even one survive (so far) and photograph them on a lovely, still, autumn afternoon.
Breath-taking.

You've had some good observations but I'm disturbed to hear about the cubs death. You say it was a discarded keep net. Could it possibly have been an eel or crayfish fyke net without an otter guard? If so, there may be others in the area and this needs to be reported to the local EA Fisheries guys asap.
Sorry to be pessimistic but it does happen. |

Sorry to hear that two cubs didn't make it......but lucky you for having the opportunity to experience seeing them in the wild

| Wonderful photos! Very sad about the cub caught in the keep net and the other one that has disappeared. It becomes very personal when something happens to wildlife that you are keeping an eye on. ie I find it sad but nothing compared to how you must have felt about it at the time.
Fingers crossed that nothing happens to the last cub. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
