| | | Urgent hedgehog advice please On my way home from the school run we saw a hedgehog ambling down the road (broad daylight, about 3.15pm) As it was out in daylight and dicing with death on the road i picked it up.
It is clearly underweight and is kind of dragging it's back leg, the leg is mobile and it is using it, but is not fully functional. The hedgehog has runny stools and it's poor eyes are crusted with mites. It is mobile and can walk, but lethargic and pretty docile.
I know it needs pretty urgent medical care, but i keep hearing so much bad stuff against the RSPCA that i don't have much faith in them. I know my local vets would take it but i also know that it would be passed onto the RSPCA.
Does anyone know of anywhere i can take it locally (North Shropshire) or what can i do for it in the meantime?
Any advice welcome please?
Thanks |

| | | Re: Urgent hedgehog advice please Hi Spirit975, well done for picking up the little guy. I've just sent you a PM (private message) with contact numbers for your area, and also some info on what to do in the meantime to keep him comfortable.
All the best. |

| | | Re: Urgent hedgehog advice please I have heared and witnessed a few iffy things about the RSPCA politically, which caused me to distance myself from them but I though they were OK regarding animal care. Oh well perhaps their attitudes have spread to this aspect of their work - pity.

Spirit975 commendably drove 30 miles to one of the contacts I gave her, but when she arrived there her car broke down, so after depositing the hog safely with the carer she had to call the AA to be towed all the way back home, poor girl! I hope the hog appreciated all the trouble she went to! |
