can someone help me id some animal scat?

It was just outside the entrance of a badger sett but dont know if it was badger poo. the poo was about a cm and a half thick, finely tapered at the ends, fairly dark brown, in several sections, curled round. in a small clearing in deciduous woodland in surrey...any ideas?

Definitely not badger.
The thickness (1.5cm) is too thick for one of the smaller mustelids, so I'll go for Fox, especially if it's on a prominent place like a mound of earth.
As always, very difficult to say without pictures.

Could well be fox, they sometimes take over old dis-used badger setts

You would need a photo, you carnt rule out badger from this description, if the diet consists of small mammals then the droppings are like this.
