| | | Re: Do Bats droppings stain? This opens up a can of worms, excuse the pun. When we had the roof sprayed the company would not do it until they had permission from the relavent authority as there had been some evidence of bats on survey. There was no roost at the time so they was able to do the job late November. However the Gas Board did the insulation through contractors and No survey was ever done before the work. I did not think about the bats at the time as they don't make any noise and you forget they might be there. The work was done in the summer time. How many roosts are disturbed in this way!? |

| | | Re: Do Bats droppings stain? This is as bad a case as I've ever seen. Bear in mind that the bats were roosting directly on top of the plaster. |

| | | Re: Do Bats droppings stain? Do you have a photo of the debris above the stain? in my experience it is often _building defects_ that allow water to wet the droppings, which gives bad press to bat roosts, which the general public are often only to ready to believe
Plastic or dust sheeting mounted on removable/cleanable trays is generally a good solution and where it is very localised guttering could be used.
Installing any of these items must be done when the roost is not in use or under proper supervision so as not to disturb the bats

| | | Re: Do Bats droppings stain? That's bad. My problem is just sprinkles of stains like a can of coke has exploded and some hit the ceiling. Guess they were going for the halogen light in the property you posted. Halogen lights give off a lot of heat, the cause of many problems, electrical blackouts and spontaneous fires. Even when they are switched off they can cause serious earthing problems.
Amazing how they have adapted to survive in the smallest of spaces! |

If all goes to plan, the replacement plasterboard will have a sheet of plastic membrane between it and the rafters to allow the droppings to slide down and out over the wall top, ditto with the urine. I'm a little apprehensive about the surface of the membrane lacking grip for bats claws though. |

or a suitable strip of wood

| | | Re: Do Bats droppings stain? Those are similar thoughts to mine nightshade, thanks. I'll see what can be done when the gap is revealed. Soprano pips by the way, a roost of 700 -800. |

| | | Re: Do Bats droppings stain? Will the bats pierce the membrane climbing up it in time. Wouldn't a layer of fleece over the membrane give them something to hook too and lessen puncturing of the membrane. No expert, but just a thought. |
