| | | Red Deer Rut at Minsmere Hi,can anyone advise how good a view you get of the Red Deer Rut at
Minsmere ? Best places for photography is what I am after.I realise such animals in this season need much respect, and I am not the type to cause disturbance for my own gain, but there is little point trying to get photos from to great a distance,so any advice regarding the Red Deer at Minsmere would be great. |

| | | Re: Red Deer Rut at Minsmere A good idea is to contact the RSPB at minsmere. Last year they ran guided tours to a viewing point on the heath. Am thinking of going myself this year.
Its in October. http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guid...ere/index.aspx

| | | Re: Red Deer Rut at Minsmere I was hoping to get some idea from someone who has perhaps been on the RSPB guided tour.I have a feeling that any guided tour maybe a bit restricting regarding photography. It is a long journey for me,but one I would make if the opportunities are there for achievable good photos. |

| | | Re: Red Deer Rut at Minsmere Three methods (Paste the lat long into google maps)
First
Go to their viewing spot that they staff with a caravan - This is found on the south side of the Westleton to Dunwich road, about 300metres after the sharp left hand turn (52.26909625751508, 1.5994817018508911). Park 300 yds further on on left of Westleton Dunwich Road and walk back (52.26931620293084, 1.6037839651107788).
Rangers and volunteers most helpful.
Second.
Start of the footpath (52.26909625751508, 1.5994817018508911) looking over the fields (now actually heath reversion)
can give good views You can also walk down this footpath, and you will come out at the RSPB "official" viewing spot.
and
good views can be obtained through the trees on occasion from the northern road that goes down to Minsmere, the continuation of Mill road out of Westleton. Deer are often in the fields to the South, but I've never seen them rut here, only to the north.
Third
I think they are again running 4x4 close up trips this year, for a modest fee, which would be best for photography. |
