| | | trapping laws A friend is investigating the reports of "Giant Rats" in Bradford. He is hoping to life-trap the rodents, whatever they are (he's looking at brown rats, gambian pouched rats, musk rats, coypu etc).
He wonders what the law states regarding releasing them after identifying. He doesnt want to live-catch something if it means having to kill it.
I told him the folks on the forum would know.....

| | | Re: trapping laws It may well be illegal (I'm not sure as they are protected species) to trap water voles which many people mistake for rats.
If these are trapped by mistake they should be released as soon as poss in the same place.
It is very imortant to put in bait for carnivores and vegetarians because you don't want dead or stressed animals.
The best thing would be to ask your local Wildlife Trust, British Mammal Society or local mammal group for advice and the legalities of trapping.

| | | Re: trapping laws I am really not sure about going to find an animal reported in the press, backed up by pics that very obviously use the false perspective of a fairly radical lens. Perhaps you could persuade your friend to go and hunt the Barguest, a well attested myth.
