| | | Re: baby hedgehog shes doing really well and has now put on a 1/3 of her body weight,we had a bit of a problem friday evening,i came home from work and there was a really vile smell and her poo was bright green,i rang the hedgehog care and they told me to get her to the vets as she had an infection.
1 injection and 2 days later and she is pilling on the weight and seems very happy,so hopefully she will pull through although she is still tiny for her age im determined to do my best for her.
thanks for asking

| | | Re: baby hedgehog Well done, and keep it up!
I just brought up 3 from approx 84g.
I was feeding- gloop made from liquidised chicken cat food, oats, Abidec vitamin drops, a tiny bit of honey, dried mealworms, goats milk and own brand fairy cake. I used to make a jar at a time and keep it in the fridge; goats milk; Whiskas supermeat chicken or fish, a few dried mealworms, and some biscuit or fairy cake sprinkled over and later some dried hedgehog mix or kitten biscuits.
The carer who advised me also reminded me that they get dental decay, but said she always feeds a few sweet things to encourage fast weight gain.
Don't forget to let it run around either on the kitchen floor if secure or in a large box. You can add interest with toilet rolls and little boxes to go in and over.
Take photos to remind you of it's progress.
Are you still having to toilet it?

| | | Re: baby hedgehog You dont need to feed anything as sweet as honey (but they DO like it) - dental problems in the future.... For good healthy weight gain, try chopped peanuts and dried mealworms as a supplement to meat-flavoured (not fish) cat or dog tinned food, a little dried fruit, some suet, egg-food, various fresh fruits (they LOVE banana) and occasional hard-boiled eggs (one every few weeks - chopped fine) Live food, if possible, should include mealworm adults and lavae, earthworms, slugs and various beetles. |

| | | Re: baby hedgehog One word of caution: Dont let a hedgehog get too fat. If the Hog is so fat that it cannot curl up, it will be vulnerable to attack from predators and will not be able to hibernate. We have had several in as rescue who needed slimming down before they could be released safely. |

| | | Re: baby hedgehog ive tryed to feed mealworms and dry cat food but she just pushes them off the bowl and will only eat the wet cat food,im hoping this will change soon as the smell of the cat food is horrible, but shes doing well up from 61g to 87g in 10 days.

| | | Re: baby hedgehog Soak the dried mealworms and dried cat food in hot water until they are very soft and pliable, and allow to cool. Then drain and serve with a few crushed peanuts and soaked dried fruit... or a small amount of fresh chopped banana.
