Well, I'm of course suspicious about any story like this from the Sun, but a coypu....in urban Bradford?? Be serious!!

It doesnt look like a coypu, capybara or muskrat et al. Looks like Rattus .

I know this has quotes from a mammal society member, and I googled her and she's real. However, was she responding to this picture, or some guy from the Sun calling her and saying "if you fund a 2.5 foot rodent here, what could it be?"
Honestly, the picture looks like a normal dead rat in closeup, with the guy looking smaller as he's in the background.

Yes, I hadn't clocked that: he's holidng it out on a pole, altering the perspective exactly like the camel spider photo.

And the people of Bradford themselves say; Ravenscliffe residents say giant rat claims are 'a load of rubbish' (From Bradford Telegraph and Argus)

This is why I don't take a newspaper. More and more I find myself hacked off by the utter gubbins they print (and I include broadsheets as well as tabloids).

My Grandfather, born about 1895, had to write an essay for school about which newspaper he read and why. He produced an essay explaining why he never read a newspaper and was complimented on it's arguments, but he failed as he had not followed the brief. He set the pattern for the rest of the family for many years, and I salute him. I don't think papers have improved since his time.

Indeed! The say they're a 'bunch of pals who go out shooting a couple of days a week'. Obviously not professionals, they shot what hasn't been formally identified and take a photo of something held up close to the lens on the end of a spade! Jokers in my opinion, and sold the story to the first paper that showed an interest!
