| | I need some help with my dwarf hamster I have a dwarf hamster called Humphery, he is about a year old, Do you think it would be ok to give him bits of plain digestive biscuit?
I accidently dropped a bit of my McVites digestive in and he ate it. He likes it but I don't know if its ok for him |

| | | Re: I need some help with my dwarf hamster Of course he would eat the biscuit, but it is not a good food for him especially as he's a dwarf. Too much sugar and fat will make him obese. better give him sunflower seeds, a piece of cucumber or a walnut which he has to work at. The dried balanced foods are best with bits of vegetable in them.

| | | Re: I need some help with my dwarf hamster I'd say feed your pet hamster hamster food. I have no idea whether biscuit is OK or not, but once you start giving your animals an occasional treat, it's a slippery slope, LOL!
When I started on WAB I was welcomed by a lovely gentleman, who privately messaged me and recommended I joined his fantastic new forum. If I were you, I'd Google "pet forum" and join in the banter there, as you seem distressed by your lack of response here.

| | | Re: I need some help with my dwarf hamster They will eat most foods that they come across.
You really shouldnt feed the hamster anything with sugar in, most dwarf hamsters found in pet shops are hybrids between Campbells and Winter whites and suffer from a wide variety of ailments due to poor husbandry on the part of breeding farms.
These hybrids (and many non-hybrid campbells due to poor husbandry) are prone to diabetes, there for they shouldnt be fed any sugary foods.
Most hamsters will love a bit of veg, but again only in small quantities once or twice a week as this can insue the runs.
Until recently i bred and exhibited Chinese, Robrovski's, Winter whites and Syrian Hamsters very succesfully but the most important thing is maintaining the health of the animal.
Again this forum isnt necessarily the best place to ask this question perhaps you'd be better off seeking further advice on one of the many many pet forums. I'd recommend mad about hamsters.
