| | | Slipper Mouse The tiniest field mouse I have seen, probably brought in by one of my cats, popped out of my slipper. Have had it for a week now, in a small aquarium. It does have fur and can eat seed and drink water. It is depositing appropriately. Seems lively and healthy. I 'd like to release it in a suitable spot, but because of its very tiny size - less than 3 cms, I am afraid it won't be able to fend for itself. How long do baby mice live with their mothers? |

Sounds like it would fend ok for itself. I'd find a nice quiet bit of hedge or bramble somewhere and let it take its chances. I suspect the mother is probably on her next brood by now. They breed incredibly fast.
Welcome to WAB by the way.

| | | Re: Slipper Mouse ..Hello DRVB, first of all Welcome to WAB.. ..When I was little we had a cat who deposited a dead mouse in one welly nearly every day. We used to take bets on , 'Who gets the mouse in their welly today?'
Good Luck with your little one..

| | | Re: Slipper Mouse Most small rodents are able to fend for themselves within a day or so of their eyes opening... although making it even more certain is the fact he is eating seeds, if he is able to do so then he is almost certainly weaned and able to fend for himself.
I think its best to release him sooner than later if you are going to so he doesnt be come used to being fed, the longer you keep him the less his chances of survival.
