| | | Badger in broad daylight Partly just to share
I saw a grey 'thing' crossing a field and after eliminating cat & rabbit went on interception course and pleasantly surprised to find this fellow
Looks young and healthy - any comments on unusual behaviour & how frequent it might be?
Near Nare head, Cornwall late June

| | | Re: Badger in broad daylight Superb shot of a lovely-looking young badger crisscross, nicely captured. Cubs tend to be exploring their territory at this time of year (June to August is also the peak period for badger dispersal although this doesn't tend to happen until about two years old), and male cubs are often more adventurous and move further from the sett (sometimes during the daytime, and especially in quieter parts of their range) than females. I have also come across reports suggesting that diurnal ranging of cubs happens more during prolonged periods of hot, dry weather as the now-weaned cubs search for earthworms.
Cheers,
