| | Polecat in Dorset As I drove to work the other day along the road between Poxwell and Osmington I am fairly certain I saw a polecat run across the road in front of me. I was not aware that they had got this far - anyone else seen any near this location. Of course it could have been an escaped polecat ferret but who can tell the difference in a fleeting glance?! |

| | | Re: Polecat in Dorset Difficult to tell if nigh on impossible.
I've just had a brief look at the Vincent Wildlife Trusts Polecat Survey report of 2004-2006 for distribution and status. In that period 63.6% of recovered carcasses were true polecats i.e. 14 bodies. Another 8 - were determined as polecat-ferret.
Dorset is well represented even along the coast. |

Your polecat shows signs of a ferret/ polecat hybrid. The distictive feature is the area of white fur around the throat running into the nose. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
