| | Water Vole @ Askham Bog Here he or she is....
I found the furry little chap at last!! 3 hours of waiting and my first real water vole sighting and i managed to get some photos, though nothing award winning. I wish i had kept my 300mm 2.8 lens
Was a joy to watch him eating a swimming from bank to bank. You could hear him munching on the shoots from a 6 foot away. For those interested in the tech details.
f4.2 @1/40 ISO400. Lens - Sigma 150mm Macro with a 1.4x converter. Nikon D200 |

| | | Re: Water Vole @ Askham Bog That's a nice image, scottwild. I recall the sounds of water voles crunching through stems when I used to fish many years ago in Gloucestershire. It's a sound that I doubt I'll hear again up here. |

| | | Re: Water Vole @ Askham Bog Oh, lovely! They do crunch very loudly. It's like someone eating crisps or celery with their mouth open. |

| | | Re: Water Vole @ Askham Bog This is a nice shot because it shows how voles aren't rats - the blunt nose, the small ears, the dark furred tail. You've also caught the feet with their characteristic starry splay. |

| | | Re: Water Vole @ Askham Bog You're so lucky! Worth the three hour wait Lovely photo! To see it swimming back and forth and to hear it eating must have been wonderful.
