Water Vole @ Askham Bog

Here he or she is....

I found the furry little chap at last!! 3 hours of waiting and my first real water vole sighting and i managed to get some photos, though nothing award winning. I wish i had kept my 300mm 2.8 lens

Was a joy to watch him eating a swimming from bank to bank. You could hear him munching on the shoots from a 6 foot away.

That's a nice image, scottwild. I recall the sounds of water voles crunching through stems when I used to fish many years ago in Gloucestershire. It's a sound that I doubt I'll hear again up here.

Oh, lovely! They do crunch very loudly. It's like someone eating crisps or celery with their mouth open.

This is a nice shot because it shows how voles aren't rats - the blunt nose, the small ears, the dark furred tail. You've also caught the feet with their characteristic starry splay.

You're so lucky! Worth the three hour wait Lovely photo! To see it swimming back and forth and to hear it eating must have been wonderful.
