| | | Roadkill I'm out walking and just came across a recently killed Badger, probably last night. Poor old thing just left lying in the gutter.
Rather than leave it in the road what are the options, I thought about moving it but I had my dog with me. Could a badger be carrying any disease that either my dog or me could pick up. Is anyone responsible for picking up road kill? Should I report it to the council? I live net Monxton in Andover.
Many thanks, I'll carry on with my walk. |

| | | Re: Roadkill I believe most councils will pick up large animals killed on the road if you tell them about it, cats, badgers, foxes, that sort of size. |

| | | Re: Roadkill If you have a local nature or wildlife group, or recording centre, they may be interested themselves, or be able to point you to another local group who would be. There can be quite a lot learned from Badgers found in this way, size, age, general health etc. |

| | | Re: Roadkill Your local badger group may be interested as well, see The Badger Trust: Affiliated Groups
Ticks will be leaving the cold carcass and looking for a new warm blooded host, your dog won't pick them up just by sniffing the cadaver.
I check my dog every day for ticks, it's been the worst year in my memory for them. |

| | | Re: Roadkill Our local badger group do try and retrieve road kills, so definitely worth getting in touch with your local group. And ticks - yep, loads this year. We were in Scotland in May and one of my dogs got rather alot of them!
