| | | Dozy badger One of those moments when i wished I had a camera!
I was riding on the field edge about 9.30am and suddenly boomp..pony stopped dead in her tracks.Right in front of me on the track was a young badger,I would guess this year's, sound asleep in the sun.he woke up,yawned, sat up on his haunches, looked at me,had a scratch, then stood up and waddled(and I mean waddled) off into the hedge where there is a huge sett.I have never seen a young badger asleep in the open in broad daylight before (though it is a very quiet field) he/she seemed very fit and healthy so maybe they just found the sett too full/hot/cramped.....I don't know. A seriously cute chap and a joy to meet.
We do have a lot of badgers and it isn't uncommon to see the adults at odd times. |

| | | Re: Dozy badger id love to see a badger, only ever seen a dead one in wales
- i would of had it stuffed but it was too far gone so i coverd it with some leaves so it wasnt blatently obvious to people walking past, but a fox could come have a munch if it wanted |

| | | Re: Dozy badger I've read about badgers occasionally sleeping above ground in warm weather but never come across it yet. All this dry weather isn't actually very good for the cubs as they'll be finding it harder than the adults to dig for food in the dry soil.

| | | Re: Dozy badger I started feeding the birds this winter. As a result we now have badgers visiting. I have seen 2 different ones and my hubby saw a sow and 2 cubs. They feed on the seeds etc that I put down for the birds on the ground. We never had them in the garden before but knew they might be in the woods behind our house. Unfortunatley one has blotted his copy book by tipping over 3 tubs that have daffodil bulbs in them. This has happened three times now and hubby is less than impressed. I did find out that they like to eat bulbs so the daffodils will have to move. They don't bother any other plants.
Here is a not too great photo of one of them. It was taken last Sunday at 10pm through the kitchen window.
