Hi, does anyone know how to tell if a hedgehog is female or male?

There is no way you are going to determine if a Hedgehog is male (boar) or female (sow) just by looking at it. Careful handling and gentle stroking along the animals back and sides will eventually relax the hedgehog and by placing the animal on its side you can examine the belly. Both sexes have five pairs of nipples but in the male you will see a penis well forward on the belly. In the female look for the vaginal opening close to the anus. Hedgehogs carry several unpleasant passengers like fleas and ticks, so it is best to avoid handling them.
