| | | urban fox cull-get a grip Listened to all the idiots today quoting about culling urban foxes. These incidents are very rare unlike the pet dog attacks that occur all the time. If they pap on about culling foxes they should decide on a major cull of dogs. Would that happen, think not. First incident since 2003!!. To many people jump to conclusion, no mention if the fox was cornered. Britain full of people who dont care about the british wildlife. The urban fox cull already exists with the family car. |

| | | Re: urban fox cull-get a grip I have great respect and admiration for foxes but accept that they need to be managed.
What do you mean beforehand? You mean was the fox cornered before it attacked the babies, then went and bit them as some kind of revenge?
I'm afraid revenge is a human phenomenon.

| | | Re: urban fox cull-get a grip Its the time honoured "knee-jerk" reaction isn't it. There must be dozens, if not hundreds of urban households who regularly feed " their" fox, but will now jump on the media bandwagon to get every one in their neighbourhood culled. There was a programme on TV a few months back about urban foxes - some people loved them, whilst others hated them. One chap got the pest controllers in to catch one that was digging up his garden and when it was in the trap, his missus asked the pest control chap what he was going to do with it. When he replied "Well destroy it, obviously" she almost burst into tears, and said afterwards how guilty she felt, as she thought it would go to a new home !
Just because these foxes are familiar everyday sights in our gardens, and they are sometimes bold enough to come up and take food from a person's hand, it doesn't alter the fact that they are, and always will be, wild animals. Unfortunately, the majority of people who do feed them, are likely to stop now, for fear that " their" fox may turn "man-eater" at any time without warning, leaving these foxes without the regular food supply they have learned to depend on, and probably making them more hungry and vicious in the long run.
Perhaps urban fox numbers should be controlled to an extent, but sadly they are only adpating and evolving to exploit man's affect on our environment. Man has created this problem and has to live with its consequences, and if that mean controlling numbers, then so be it. Cars do kill many urban foxes, but numbers will naturally grow, especially with the artificial enhancement of their territories with supplementary feeding by well meaning householders.
By the way, I am not in any way belittling the situation the twin's family are going through. It must be a terrible ordeal for them and my thoughts are with them.

There seems to be a problem with foxes getting into houses in that area going on footage on tv.
But that dont mean they are all dangerous they are still wild animals and are unpredictable.
Its always the case where their natural habitat is taken away and they come into contact with humans saying that this is the only case of its kind..
