| | | fox or badger hair ID I heard a fox will co-habitate with badger's and found this tuff of hair outside a badger's sett. At first I thought it was from a badger but it looks fox like in colour. Any fox or badger expert recognise it ?. |

| | | Re: fox or badger hair ID Fox - from the size of the clump looks like there may have been an exchange of views. Unless of course there is a dead fox nearby.

| | | Re: fox or badger hair ID Fox indeed. Handy hint - if you 'roll' the hair between your fingertips, fox hair will be sort of fluffy, deer hair will be round but badger hair's triangular in section and will feel it too. You'll feel distinct ridges.

| | | Re: fox or badger hair ID It is worth noting that there may have been fox cubs in the 'earth/sett'.
Food is regularly left at the entrance by the parents to entice the cubs out. What you found was probably the remainder of a meal.
Foxes will feed fox, dead of course, to their cubs believe it or not, it's all food to them! |

James | Badgers in Britain don't have hair with a triangular cross section, though other species might. The hair has a flattened oval shape in cross section. It might feel ridged, but not because of a triangular shape.
