However I can add some reassurance to this fact that it would have to be helluva a lot of sultanas over a sustained amount of time. I can say this from personal experience as well. Yesterday, I put a packet (500g) of sultanas in a bowl of warm water to soak for the blackbirds then got distracted & went & cut the grass. When I got back 'bout an hour later the sultanas had gone! Mr greedy Sam the lurcher had helped himself. In a panic I phoned the vet & asked what to do, but was reassured that the amount was not sufficient to harm him (he's 20kg) even tho it might make him a bit well, dog owners will know what I mean when I say through the eye of a needle  ! So I was much relieved as I thought I'd killed my dog. She did say that the studies have shown that it's mainly small dogs that are at most risk. Still even so, next time I soak sultanas for the birds I'll make sure they're right out of reach, I do not want to go through that worry again!
