chittling boy, i put the problem down to the townies who cant be bothered to look after there pet rabbits then release them to the country side , and i wouldn't put it past defra to put the mixie down .on country file last week they keep on about defra culling the badgers.

Adrian,you and JOE662 sound like countrymen and men living in the real world.Them farmers were not joking.It's a serious matter to them.Perhaps they bin told summut we ant.Christ,if the ministry let on they were laying it down deliberately there would be hell on with the general public.Can we believe that government officials and MPs are entirely honest?

I don't deny that such things go on (after all, that's how myxi was started!) but I do question the validity of planting black rabbits, or for that matter, any colour rabbit other than the usual wild agouti, as carriers. They stick out like a sore thumb!

Hello Dutchess.I must admit that I too find it strange it was black rabbits that the badger man had on board his vehicle.All I can think is that they are used as 'spotter' rabbits when they drive round checking up.The man in question has since died but I know another who was on the badger cull with him and I think I shall have to look him up to see if he can give some info on this.

Lundy Island off the SW coast of England has a massive black rabbit population.
