The 'Go-Cat' biscuits I offered were rejected last night, but as you say, my hogs have been unduly spoiled, so will have to learn to find their own stuff in future.

As yet no hog's struggled with a nut - I bash them [the nuts, that is!!] in a mortar with a pestle - and as far as I can hear no one seems to cough/splutter/object to them so far.

On balance I think I'll be more circumspect about peoples' recipe ideas for hogs in future.
I bought a 2.5kg bag of Spikes about a year ago, and I think 4 or 5 of those star-shaped bits have actually been consumed by hedgehogs since that time. That leaves me with 2.498573625 kg remaining.

Crushed nuts are fine. It's when people put out whole peanuts that the problem starts. Not just bad for hogs but birds as well.

Go Cat can be a problem as can many of the other cheaper biscuits. If they get damp they go sour and even my cats won't touch them. Keep putting out food but use it as a top up. If they need it they'll come and eat it. Most important though is water as they can't always find that.

Spikes biscuits are great, put those out rather than waste them as cats won't touch them. To keep them dry put them under some sort of cover. I use 4 bricks on edge with a paving slab on top. Planter on top of that.

Most hogs will go for dried mealworms. I made the huge mistake of feeding a litter of 5 babies on them. Everything else went untouched. But when I ran out one day they went berserk. Completely trashed everything in sight. Turned the food bowl over after pooing in the food. Turned the water over. Ripped up all the newspaper base in the cage. They get completely hooked on them.

Some of my adults though who have been raised on biscuits and meat now won't touch them. If you're going to put them out specifically for hogs, crumble them up in some meat and mash it. That way they get a mixture and it doesn't require you to take out a mortgage to keep feeding.
